How to Become a Peregrine – the project
Our organisation with young people from Dorset & Somerset bring to life the pioneering field study and writing of disabled ornithologist/ conservationist JA Baker on the centenary of his birth in 1926.
Collaborative workshops have led to a digital legacy of Baker’s seminal text – The Peregrine (1967) including a short film & illustrated montage panels depicting scenes from the book, showcased at The National Archives and Essex Book Festival. created collaboratively by young people in music & illustration workshops.
The University of Essex’s Baker Archive have copies of Hannah’s montage illustration for free distribution and will add a link to the film as part of their archive.
How to Become a Peregrine is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, in 2026 we embark on this exciting project celebrating Baker’s groundbreaking nature writing and inviting young people to be enthralled by nature writing, birdlife and green spaces.
