As part of the British Library Fantasy Worlds: Family Day, join The Enchanted Cinema in becoming a live FX orchestra!

You’ll use instruments, hands and voices to help create the soundtrack to excerpts from Studio Ghibli’s much-loved My Neighbour Totoro + 1973 animation Where the Wild Things Are.

Sound effects include a gurgling stream, dripping umbrellas, Max’s journey across the ocean + one of the most visually stunning sequences of My Neighbour Totoro, celebrating Studio Ghibli’s unparalleled magic in the year of The Boy & The Heron.

Every child gets a chance to be involved if they choose to, with older kids rising to the challenge of playing the xylophone or narrating the Wild Things animation live and younger ones delighting in the “cicada” shakers or “tree-frog” guiros.

With an inclusive and light-hearted atmosphere throughout, each show also features a live musical score by The Enchanted Cinema.

The Family Day runs 11.00-16.00 and it is suitable for ages 0-11 years old. There are various workshops happening throughout the day as well as the Enchanted Cinema – storytelling, author talks, illustration workshops, Baby Broadway, drama workshops and craft workshops (set times or drop in – first come first served).

We look forward to celebrating the launch of our 2024 project – #orchestraofwater – with you at the British Library!
